Black Widow as it appeared for Combots VI
Black Widow! was a robot created by Hal Rucker that entered Combots Cup VI. It was a box shaped 8WD lifter. What is most unique about Black Widow! is how tall the bot is. Only being 2.5 inches tall (For reference BioHazard was only 4 inches tall). Despite its technology, Black Widow! performed poorly, only winning one fight and losing two, never returning to RoboGames again
Hal Rucker would continue to compete in RoboGames with Black and Blue & More knowingly Whoops!. Hal Rucker also competed in BattleBots season 2-4 with The Ringmaster (Season 2), DUCK! (Season 3 & Season 4). He also built Marvin for his daughter, Hannah which competed in Season 4 of BattleBots along with DUCK!
Combots VI
Black Widow's first fight of Combots VI was against Gruff. Both bots we're aggressive and trying to get under one another. Gruff clamped down on Black Widow! shortly before Black Widow! got away. Both bots struggled to get under one another until Black Widow! got under Gruff and pushed it towards wall, slightly lifting Gruff up with its lifting arm before Gruff escaped. At the point, Gruff started to have issues driving and slowed up, allowing Black Widow! to take advantage and be more aggressive. Black Widow! continued shoving Gruff around, unable to get under it before the time ran out. The judges ruled in favor of Black Widow!, and Black Widow! advanced to the next round where it faced the feared Last Rites
The match started with Last Rites getting up to speed before Black Widow! shoved it into the wall, however Last Rites escaped any damage. This attack caused Black Widow! to lose a side of drive, which allowed Last Rites to come in and start chipping at Black Widow!, removing a set of wheels in the process. Black Widow! taped out, and Last Rites won by Tap Out. Black Widow! was then shoved down into the losers bracket where it faced Vlad The Impaler II
The match started fairly even as both bots were able to get under one another before Vlad II was able to get under it and slam it into the wall several times. Black Widow! was able to get under Vlad II numerous times, however due to Black Widow!'s last of catchers, Vlad II just ramped over Black Widow! so Black Widow! could never push it or lift it. Vlad II continued to push Black Widow! around until it got caught under the wall while ramming Black Widow!, Black Widow! during this time had also stopped moving. The match was paused so Vlad could be unstuck. When the match continued, Black Widow! was awfully slow and almost immobile, but because Vlad II continued to ram Black Widow! into walls, no countdown was issued. The match ultimately went the distance and the judges with no second thought in mind, gave Vlad The Impaler II the win. This knocked Black Widow! out of the tournament
