Cavalier is a Heavyweight robot built by students from the University of Texas Arlington campus as a senior projectthat competed at RoboGames 2017. Its complex design led to it being one of the three most hyped RoboGames newcomers for the event on /r battlebots along with Mega Melvin , and Rampage Despite this it was plagued by technical issues, and bad draws, and weight issues. As a result of this, Cavalier did not do well in competition, only managing to win one fight via a forfeit.
Design[]
Cavalier was a unique robot, it was a white, and blue, box-shaped, four-wheel drive robot that used linear actuators to switch between Omni wheel, and conventional drive. On the top of the robot were a pair of self-righting arms. Cavalier was also armed with a unique weapon in its counter-rotating horizontal drum spinners.
Cavalier also was supposed to have an armored wedge at the rear, however the team showed up to the event 13lbs overweight, and were forced to rush to alter the robot just to get it in the arena for its first fight.[1]

RoboGames 2017[]
Cavalier's first match was against Echo 2.0. For this fight UTA Combat Robots opted to run the rear wedge on Cavalier. However to do that the team had to remove the conventional drive, and rely on the Omni Wheels as well as remove the self righting mechanism to make weight for the wedge. The team then ran out of time to install the shock mounting for the Omni Wheels, meaning that Cavalier entered the fight badly crippled.[2]
This match was essentially over within three seconds as Echo got up to speed, and box-rushed the crippled Cavalier, knocking it off of its Omni Wheels, and onto its belly. Without its conventional drive equipped this left Cavalier unable to move, and it was counted out.[3]
This sent Cavalier to the loser's bracket where it was scheduled to face plasma. However plasma showed up to the event unfinished, and was forced to forfeit the match, and moved on to the next round of the loser's bracket where it faced Ragin Scotsman.
