Icewave was a Middleweight robot built by Team UI that competed at ComBots Cup l. Due to lack of entries it reached the quarterfinals by default despite doing poorly, ultimately going 1-2.
When BattleBots went back on air, Icewave was rebuilt into a Heavyweight, and is currently registered for RoboGames 2023 as such.
Design History[]
Middleweight[]
As a Middleweight, Icewave was a four wheeled box-shaped robot with an unpainted main chassis. Attached to this was a black, hinged wedge with the robot's name painted on it. For a weapon the robot had a overhead horizontal bar spinner, this was powered by an internal combustion engine housed in a white and blue casing with a black flame graphic painted onto it.
Heavyweight[]
This version of Icewave kept the same basic design, however it was completely rebuilt from the ground up. For starters Icewave now has an orange horizontal bar spinner powered by a custom internal combustion engine. The weapon is painted bright orange with grey tips to try and make the bar seem shorter than it is at full speed.
Robot History[]
Combots Cup I[]
Icewave's first match was against the pneumatic flipper of Pirinah 2, it lost this fight sending it to the loser's bracket where it faced lightly armored wedge High Impact. Icewave beat High Impact, likely by knockout which put it up against the sideways flipper of Speed Bump XL.
Icewave lost this match, meaning it was eliminated from the tournament. Icewave wasn't done however as it participated in a grudge match against 2005 RFL Nationals bracket entrant Total Anarchy 2.5. Icewave would win this fight, ending the twin event on a high note for the team.
Outside RoboGames[]
Icewave competed as mentioned, Icewave competed at BattleBots as a Heavyweight 2015, and 2016 to much more success before being thoroughly trounced at BattleBots 2020 and 2021.
