Mega Melvin is a Heavyweight robot built by Bots FC from Brooklyn, New York which appeared in the 2017 RoboGames. It is a white, and silver, box-shaped robot armed with very powerful axe driven by two powerful brushless motors. For mobility Mega Melvin had four omni-wheels.

Mega Melvin went into RoboGames as a crowd favorite, mainly due to its impressive technical specifications, powerful weapon which rivaled that of RoboGames Superheavyweight Gold Medalist The Judge, and hype that had built up around the machine on Reddit.

Unfortunately Mega Melvin suffered a very bad draw against a new, and improved Polar Vortex in its first fight, and never really recovered, failing to win a single fight. Mega Melvin was initially registered for RoboGames 2018, however it was dropped out by the team in favor of Doomba as Mega Melvin was slated to be in China for King of Bots 1.5 near the time of RoboGames 2018. It is also at Battlebots 2019-2020 with a bot called Shatter!

Mega Melvin axes Polar Vortex's tire

Mega Mevin axes Polar Vortex's tire.

In its first match it fought Polar Vortex. This match started with Mega Melvin strafing around the arena before delivering an axe blow to Polar Vortex's tire. However after a few more axe blows, Polar Vortex managed to get around to the side of Mega Melvin, and flip it with its spinning flywheel.

This blow completely busted Mega Melvin up, and left its axe mechanism disabled. Mega Melvin was then counted out, and lost by KO.

It went to the losers bracket and lost to an Megalodon, it started off sluggish but managed to get a few hits. However after a slam, Mega Melvin became immobile, it tried to activate itself by smashing its hammer up and down but it was counted out and lost.

Outside RoboGames[]

Mega Melvin attempted to enter Robot Wars Series 9 and later Series 10 but failed to qualify.

Shortly after construction, an earlier version of Mega Melvin fought at the Orlando Maker Faire 2016, competing in the HW Sportsman Class. There, it fought several battles against opponents such as Old Iron, and Colson Doctor, Toxic BARista, with the event serving as a test session for the robot's drive systems and axe.

In 2017 Mega Melvin (renamed as Blue) competed in the Chinese televised Robot Combat competition King of Bots., where it finally bucked the dreaded beta Curse, going 2-1 and reaching the Round of 16 where it ultimately lost to Two BBQ.
