NIGHTHAWK

NIGHTHAWK was a Middleweight robot built by Team Aptyx Designs that competed in RoboGames 2017. It was a black, four-wheeled, weaponless, invertible, box-shaped robot styled after an F-16 fighter jet, and equipped with interchangable wedges.

Despite being built mere weeks before the competition NIGHTHAWK did very well in its debut as after a rocky start it proceeded to win the Silver Medal after a pair of extremely close fights with former champion General in the Middleweight Finals.

NIGHTHAWK's first match was against crowd favorites Rampage. Despite the fact that Rampage had managed to get itself stuck in the wall, and unable to free itself. In an effort to free Rampage, NIGHTHAWK rammed it, and attempted to free it but got stuck itself. The match was then counted down, and in one of many suspect decisions of the event NIGHTHAWK was controversially deemed the loser after the refs deemed it to be pinning Rampage.

This decision put NIGHTHAWK in the loser's bracket where it faced Mexican entry, Robotto. This fight started with Robotto getting up to speed, and driving over NIGHTHAWK multiple times, but not really doing any damage. NIGHTHAWK then got under Robotto, and slammed it against the arena wall, stranding it on its rear, and Robotto was counted out.

This win by KO put NIGHTHAWK into the next round where it faced Lionheart. This match started with NIGHTHAWK capitalizing on a driving error by Lionheart, and slamming it into the wall. It continued this tactic until time ran out, damaging the arena floor in the process, and won a 22-11 judges decision putting it in the Round of 16 where it faced MANDiii.
