OriginalSin

Original Sin

Original Sin is a Heavyweight robot that was built by Team Late Night Racing for RoboGames 2006. It is a four-wheeled wedge robot, with no active weapons. Despite this lack of an active weapon it is the most successful robot in RoboGames history, owing to the skills of its driver Gary Gin. This driving skill led Original Sin to five RoboGames gold medals, three ComBots gold medals, two RoboGames silver medals, three ComBots silver medals, as well as one ComBots bronze model. Gary Gin also competed in Battlebots Season 3 to 7 with Free Shipping, which is practically Original Sin repainted and armed with a lifting fork (which was changed to a small vertical disk spinner for Season 7).

Original Sin flips Ragin Scotsman

Original Sin flips Ragin Scotsman.

After receiving a bye in the first round, Original Sin's first opponent was long-time rivals Ragin Scotsman. This match started with both bots driving out of their squares, Original Sin got under Ragin Scotsman, and the inertia flipped Ragin Scotsman upside-down.

Ragin Scotsman then deployed its flamethrower, but Original Sin slammed it into the corner. Ragin Scotsman attempted to get away, but Original Sin continued to slam it around until time ran out, at one point even causing a floor panel that had been damaged by Stewart earlier in the competition to pop back up.

The judges unsurprisingly ruled the match 20-13 in favor of Original Sin, this put it in the quarterfinals where it faced Megabyte. This match started with Megabyte spinning up to speed as Original Sin slowly approached. Original Sin then lightly tapped Megabyte causing it to become unbalanced before slamming into it sending both robots careening into opposite walls. Original Sin then slammed Megabyte again as it tried to spin up, this caused Megabyte to rebound into the wall where it started emitting smoke.

"Oh god, 4/20 was yesterday. Puff-puff pass."
— Scott Robinson

This turned out to be from the weapon motor, as everytime Megabyte spun up, more smoke would come out, seriously reducing visibility in the arena. Without a fully functional weapon, Megabyte was easily shoved around by Original Sin for theremainder of the match. To make matters worse, with less than 1:30 on the clock Megabyte lost its weapon belt meaning that it now could not spin up at all. Original Sin then shovedit around until time ran out, unsurprisingly the judges ruled the match in favor of Original Sin, putting it through to the Semi-Finals where it faced Whoops!.

The fight began with Original Sin getting better of the shoving exchanges, able to almost always get under Whoops!. It managed to slam the challenger against the wall and closed the distance whenever Whoops! tried to flee. In the later part of the match, Whoops! was able to get the articulated wedge under Original Sin a few times but could not take control. Original Sin drove away after being lifted up by the articulated wedge The defending champion ended the match by keeping the pressure onto Whoops! and it went on to win the Judges' Decision. It advanced to the Winners' Finals to battle Swamp Thing.

Robogames 2018[]

Original Sin defeated Megalodon and Khaos and advanced to the Quarterfinals to face Echo 2.0.

Original Sin and Echo 2.0 started charging towards each other. Original Sin began getting under and ramming it into the walls from corner to corner. The drum bot was able to flee for a while before it was pursed by the reigning champion. Echo 2.0 managed to land a strong hit onto Original Sin's side, flipping it over. Original Sin gained some distance while Echo 2,0 continued turning in place. The wedge proceeded to pick up the stumbling Echo 2.0 and slammed it against the corner. Soon after, they both began driving around each other before a collision caused Echo to smoke and be completely immobilised. A final shove was dealt and Echo 2.0 was counted out, giving Original Sin the KO victory.

The reigning champion advanced to the Semifinals where it had to battle Lucky, a promising newcomer which had defeated the veteran rival, Sewer Snake. Both robots circled around before exchanging hits. Original Sin was able to intercept a flip and gained the upper hand for a while. Original Sin was then flipped after evading the second attempt and had not much difficult avoiding even more. The rookie robot would be more aggressive afterwards as the champion continued to drive away. Receiving a continual series of flip, it returned to being hostile. The wedgelets were able to win almost every ground contest over Lucky's front. The match ended and the judges ruled the match in favor of Original Sin.

Original Sin slams Gruff into the door with tremendous force, fracturing a part of the door.

This secured Original Sin's placement in the Winner's Final to fight Gruff. Original Sin and Gruff seemed to be even with both them getting under each other. It slammed Gruff into the wall but was delivered a great lift from the forks in retaliation. Having been pinned, it struggled to escape the grasp of the lifting arms until it was finally released. Shortly after, Gruff was given a payback as Original Sin set it in a similar compromising position, breaking a part of the door as well. They both separated and turning the tides of the battle continuously as Gruff grabbed with its forks as Original Sin was hoisted up momentarily. Original Sin abruptly halted once it drove into the corner railings after another scuffle.

The fight would resume again after a fire in the background was extinguished. The wedgelets prove to be slightly more effective than the forks in the remaining seconds. Original Sin earned the win after a close judges' decision.

In the Grand Final, it battled the mighty Touro Maximus from the losers' side. Original Sin went into the match, equipped with an orange concave plough. Touro Maximus already had the clear advantage as it repeatedly knock Original Sin up. The brazillian bot managed to even win a pushing contest against Original Sin. Original Sin could not get under nor slam the drum spinner robot into the railings. Both robots continued to roam around the arena until the end of the match. Original Sin lost the judges' decision due to Touro Maximus' dominant performance, resetting the Grand Final round.

Osvtm

Original Sin pins Touro Maximus into the corner at the very end of the match.

In the second match of the Grand Final, the plough configuration remained. Right from the start, they both collided into each other. Touro proceeded to strike the side of the plough and hit it again with less power. Fortunately, Touro Maximus suffered both drive and weapon motor problems, allowing Original a brief window to shove it around. Original Sin was tossed back from a powerful spinner impact. Original Sin was displaying ruthless aggression towards the drum spinner. Touro Maximus was pinned against the barrier and could only grind onto the plough. Original Sin cautiously pushed Touro into the corner before the match ends. Original Sin won yet another Robogames combat event as the judges ruled in its favor.
