Polar Vortex is a Heavyweight robot built by Team Toad that competed at RoboGames 2015, 2016, and 2017. Originally a two-wheeled, orange, invertible, wedge-shaped robot armed with a unique full-body lifter, it was revised for RoboGames 2017 to be a orange, two-wheeled, inveritble, box-shaped robot with a powerful single toothed vertical flywheel.
Polar Vortex did well in competition, reaching the semifinals in RoboGames 2015, but performing progressively worse the following RoboGames, and failing to make even the quarterfinals by 2017.

For RoboGames 2017 an all new version of Polar Vortex was built. This version of Polar Vortex's first ever fight was against tournament favorites Mega Melvin. This match started with Mega Melvin strafing around the arena before delivering an axe blow to Polar Vortex's tire.
However after a few more axe blows, Polar Vortex managed to get around to the side of Mega Melvin, and flip it with its spinning flywheel. This blow completely busted Mega Melvin up, and left its axe mechanism disabled, and it was counted out. This gave Polar Vortex the win by KO putting it through to the second round of the winner's bracket where it faced Megabyte.
This match started with Megabyte spinning up to full speed, and slamming into Polar Vortex. This ripped the flywheel of Polar Vortex partially off the front of the robot, mounts and all. Polar Vortex then drove away but soon stranded itself on the weapon mount, caught fire, and tapped out.
This put it in the loser's bracket where it had a grudge match from 2014 and 2015 ROBlympics against Touro Maximus. However, Polar Vortex lost this match, and therefore, was eliminate.

Michael Mauldin made a bot called Hypothermia for the 2018 season of Battlebots. It performed poorly, losing against Whiplash, a grudge match with Minotaur (who built Touro Maximus), Valkyrie, and in the end, won a match against The Four Horsemen (in which Hypothermia resembled 2014 Polar Vortex). Michael has made a robot called Texas Twister to replace Hypothermia for 2019.
He also built Cathadth for Robot Wars: World Special, where it had a similarity to Last Rites. It performed poorly, losing to Concussion and Thor in a Tag Team Battle paired with Terror Turtle. Then it would lose the captain’s battle to Eruption, losing the episode to the UK.
