Sewer Snake

Sewer Snake with the forks, and prongs.

Sewer Snake is a Heavyweight Combat Robot built by Team Plumb Crazy that debuted during the 2004 Combots Open, its weapon is a lifting wedge. Later a top mounted lifter was added.

Sewer Snake competed in almost every RoboGames event from 2005 until 2014, after which it was retired and replaced by Evil Plunger. But it did register to RoboGames 2016 However it did not make it to the event. Sewer Snake would finally return to RoboGames in 2017 where it made the quarterfinals.

It did very well winning gold in its first ever RoboGames, winning its debut event, and holding the second most Heavyweight Gold Medals behind Original Sin. Sewer Snake went through some drastic design changes over the years being a mere six wheeled wedge in its debut appearance. By 2013 it was a robot capable of both Breakdancing and throwing robots out the arena with ease.

Sewer Snake slams Spinning Mayhem

Sewer Snake slams into Spinning Mayhem

Sewer Snakes first match was against Spinning Mayhem. This fight started with Spinning Mayhem trying to spin up, however Sewer Snake box rushed it, and slammed it into the rails. This immobilized Spinning Mayhem for a quick and easy KO.

This put them against Final Verdict. Immediately Sewer Snake employed the same tactic it did against Spinning Mayhem, and not only prevented Final Verdict from spinning up. But also stalled out its weapon motor as well, Sewer Snake then started taking Final Verdict around the arena, and with no active weapon the Final Verdict team tapped out to prevent damage to their robot.

Next Sewer Snake was against I.C.B.M. this fight started with Sewer Snake taking I.C.B.M. into the rails. I.C.B.M. then got away, and Sewer Snake chased after it, and lifted it, I.C.B.M. then attempted to take Sewer Snake into the rails. This however failed, and Sewer Snake responded by putting I.C.B.M. on its side, and then flipping it over for yet another win by knockout.

Stormovik pops Sewer Snake into the air

Sewer Snake gets airtime from Stormovik

Now Sewer Snake was against the drum spinner of Stormovik. This fight started with Stormovik having drive issues, despite this it managed to get underneath Sewer Snake and pop it into the air with its drum. However this attack also caused Stormovik to stop moving, this allowed Sewer Snake to pit Stormovik for yet another easy KO.

Sewer Snakes final match of the event was against Speedy. This fight has been lost to time unfortunately, and all that is known is that Sewer Snake won, and due to Speedy's chronic reliability issues it was likely by knockout. This undefeated run meant that Sewer Snake won the 2004 ComBots Open.

Robogames 2005[]

Sewer Snakes RoboGames debut match was against Body Slam. It is unknown how this fight went other than the fact that Sewer Snake won, this put them against former BattleBots competitor Towering Inferno.

Sewer Snake immobilizes Towering Inferno

Sewer Snake immobilizes Towering Inferno

This fight started very well, due to Towering Infernos sheer size Sewer Snake started the battle with its wedge raised, and immediately went about controlling its opponent. Sewer Snake then threw Towering Inferno out the arena.

However, the fight was not over, as Towering inferno used its axes to pound its way out of its predicament. Sewer snake then delivered two consecutive slams into the wall before finally managing to immobilize Towering Inferno by placing one half of its drive-train out of the arena.

This win put them against another former BattleBots competitor SJ. This is another fight where only the results are known, and Sewer Snake moved on to fight defending champion Megabyte.

This fight started with Megabyte spinning up, however Sewer Snake was a step ahead, using its tough front wedge to

get in underneath its opponent, and take them to the wall. This hit managed to destabilize Megabyte a bit.

After this Megabyte managed to get things together enough to use its front wedgelet that had been attached to the robot specifically for this fight to get in underneath Sewer Snakes wedge and pop them repeatedly. After several more attacks like this Sewer Snake managed to get a good hit with its wedge in.

This sent Megabyte flying into the air, this in turn resulted in Megabyte careening around the arena for a bit. Sewer snake then delivered three slams to Megabyte before sending them flying again. By this point Sewer Snake had managed to stop Megabytes spinner.

This allowed Sewer Snake to attempt a flip, however this failed, and Megabyte. Who was now up to full speed came in and took a shot at Sewer Snake who had his wedge up, sending them spinning away. Sewer Snake however quickly recovered, and delivered Megabyte to the walls as the clock wound down.

This win put them in the final against Robot Wars Series 7 champion Typhoon 2. However Typhoon 2 was too damaged after its fight against Megabyte, and was forced to forfeit. This meant Sewer Snake had won the Gold Medal in its first ever RoboGames competition without even having to fight a robot in the finals.

2005 RFL Nationals[]

All that is known about this events Heavyweight class is that Sewer Snake beat both Stormovik, and Megabyte to win the championship.

Combots Cup I[]

Sewer Snake flips SJ-0

Sewer Snake flips SJ.

Sewer Snakes first match was against Last Rites. Not much is known about this fight other than the fact that Sewer Snake won, This win put them in the quarterfinals where they faced SJ.

This fight started with Sewer Snake driving onto SJ's wedge, SJ then promptly flipped Sewer Snake, Sewer Snake however landed on its wheels. Sewer Snake then attempted to get under SJ but kept driving up its wedge, Sewer Snake then flipped itself but quickly self righted. Sewer Snake then finally got underneath SJ, and flipped it over into a position to where it could not self right for the win by knockout.

Sewer Snakes next fight was against the deadly shell spinner Megabyte. This semifinals fight started with Megabyte getting up to speed, and Sewer Snake taking it to the rails multiple times. Megabyte then managed to get a hit on Sewer Snakes wedge, however this did no damage, and Sewer Snake rammed Megabyte three more times.

Sewer Snake sends Megabyte off balance

Sewer Snake destabilizes Megabyte.

On this third attack a piece came off of Megabyte who was then rammed by Sewer Snake again, slamming it into the rails, and sending it gyrating around the arena. Once Megabyte regained control Sewer Snake got under it again, and repeated the attack. Again sending Megabyte around the arena out of control.

Sewer Snake then managed to stop Megabytes spinner, and took it to the wall again, however this was only temporary as Megabyte soon got back up to speed. Sewer Snake then slammed the now spinning Megabyte into the rails again, it followed this attack up by raising its lifing wedge and ramming Megabyte. This sent Sewer Snake flying, it quickly recovered and slammed Megabyte into the rails again, Sewer Snake repeated this attack until time expired.

Sewer Snake flips Karcas 2 OOTA

Sewer Snake flips Karcas 2 OOTA.

Sewer Snake won this fight putting it in the winner's bracket final where it faced Karcas 2. This match started with Sewer Snake locking weapons with Karcas 2, but being unable to get under it. Karcas 2 then took Sewer Snake to the wall, and pinned it, before lifting it, and grabbing the wheels of Sewer Snake.

Karcas 2 then used this to its advantage, slamming Sewer Snake around the arena, and into the walls. Sewer Snake then got away, and attempted to ram Karcas 2, but just drove over it. However while this was happening Karcas 2 got its weapon wedged into the floor, this allowed Sewer Snake to get under it, and flip it against the wall, and out of the arena.

This put Sewer Snake in the finals where it faced Karcas 2 yet again. This match started with Sewer Snake attacking the sides of Karcas 2, and shoving it around, but still unable to get under it. Sewer Snake then attacked the front of Karcas 2, driving over it, and nearly driving itself out of the arena.

Sewer Snake nearly flips Karcas 2 OOTA in the final seconds

Sewer Snake nearly flips Karcas 2 OOTA in the final seconds of the ComBots Cup I Heavyweight Finals.

Karcas 2 then attempted a lift on Sewer Snake but Sewer Snake escaped, and attempted to attack the front of Karcas 2 but once again failed, and drove over it. After this Sewer Snake got under the side of Karcas 2, and slammed it into the wall. Karcas 2 then got under Sewer Snake, and lifted it against the arena wall, but Sewer Snake escaped, and attempted a flip on Karcas 2, but missed, and nearly threw itself out of the arena.

Sewer Snake then got under Karcas 2, and briefly lifted it, but Karcas 2 escaped, and Sewer Snake crashed into the wall. Karcas 2, and Sewer Snake then locked weapons, and Karcas 2 attempted to lift Sewer Snake, this failed however, and Sewer Snake escaped. However Karcas 2 then got under Sewer Snake again, and lifted it, Sewer Snake once again escaped, and got away.

Sewer Snake then kept trying, and failing to get under Karcas 2, and with less than a minute left on the clock, kept running into Karcas 2's open jaws, and attempting to flip it that way. Then with 10 seconds left on the clock Sewer Snake finally got under Karcas 2, nearly flipping it out of the arena as time ran out. The judges decided the match in favor of Sewer Snake, meaning that it had won the Heavyweight division of the first ComBots Cup, and $10,000 USD.

ComBots GDC[]

Sewer Snake sends Megabyte flying2

Sewer Snake slams Megabyte against the wall, sending it flying.

Sewer Snake's first match was against Super Megabyte. As the arena for the ComBots GDC was much smaller, there was not much room for Super Megabyte to get up to speed, this allowed Sewer Snake to slam it around, and eventually flip it against the wall where it was unable to self-right and was counted out.

Sewer Snake then fought Megabyte. This match started with Sewer Snake slamming Megabyte into the wall, however once it released Megabyte, Sewer Snake got stuck on its own lifting wedge. Since this was a demonstration match, the fight was paused to free Sewer Snake.

Once the fight resumed, Megabyte got up to speed, and Sewer Snake slammed it ento the wall. This sent Megabyte ricocheting towards the other arena wall, this continued until time ran out. As this was a demonstration match, no winner was declared meaning for the first time in RoboGames/ComBots history a match had been declared a draw.

Sewer Snake wasn't done yet however, as It then fought in a rumble against Megabyte, and Compressor. It lost this after getting high centered on itself, and Compressor. This was the last fight for Sewer Snake in this demonstration event.

Robogames 2006[]

Ziggy flips Sewer Snake out the arena.

Sewer Snake flies out the arena.

For Robogames 2006 Sewer Snake was fighting as a Superheavyweight, and its only opponent was Ziggy. As such it was set up as a best 2 out of 3. Unfortunately for Sewer Snake this did not go well at all.

The first fight started with Sewer Snake lifting Ziggy and taking it around the arena. Unfortunately for Sewer Snake, Ziggy then got underneath them and sent them flying halfway across the arena, and over the rails.

For round 2 Sewer Snake had a different lifting attachment on the top of the machine. This fight started with Sewer Snake driving onto Ziggy's wedge, but backing off before Ziggy could use its flipper to send them flying. Sewer Snake then attempted to get around to the side of Ziggy but was unsuccessful.

Sewer Snake then finally managed to get under Ziggy, but while trying to take them to a wall Sewer Snake hit a floor seam causing Ziggy to slide off their forks. After this Sewer Snake drove over the top of Ziggy, which fired its flipper but missed.

Ziggy flips Sewer Snake

Sewer Snake is flipped by Ziggy

Ziggy then spun around and delivered four consecutive flips to Sewer Snake, nearly getting them out of the arena again. Ziggy then flipped the now inverted Sewer Snake again, however Sewer Snake retaliated by getting underneath Ziggy, and pushing them around.

Sewer snake then used Ziggys wedge combined with their own drivetrain to right themselves, and proceed to deliver a slam to the front of Ziggy. After this attack Ziggy flipped Sewer Snake again, but the resulting flip left their flipper stuck in the upright position.

This allowed Sewer Snake to come in and push Ziggy around some more. At this point it became a drivers duel, with no bot gaining the advantage until Ziggy managed to get under Sewer Snake and push them into the wall. This continued until the buzzer was sounded, and the resulting judges decision was for Ziggy meaning Sewer Snake had won the Silver Medal without winning a single fight.

ComBots Cup II[]

Sewer Snake's first match this competition was against Original Sin, this match started with both bots driving towards each other, the resulting collision flipped Sewer Snake. Original Sin then slammed into Sewer Snake in an attempt to prevent it from self-righting. This however failed, and Sewer Snake righted itself before attacking the sides of Original Sin in multiple failed attempts to lift it.

Sewer Snake hoists LNW OOTA

Sewer Snake hoists LNW out of the arena for a win by KO in the semifinals of the second ComBots Cup.

Sewer Snake then hit a floor seam before driving over the top of Original Sin, and then getting under it, and attempting another lift. Once again this failed, and Original Sin got away, at this point the top flipper of Sewer Snake stopped working, and Original Sin slammed it into the wall. This continued until time ran out, unsurprisingly the judges ruled in favor of Original Sin, putting Sewer Snake in the loser's bracket.

In the loser's bracket, Sewer Snake fought LNW. This match started with Sewer Snake driving up on the top of LNW, Sewer Snake then got away, and got under LNW, but before it could lift it Sewer Snake hit a floor seam knocking LNW off of its lifting forks. Sewer Snake then lifted LNW into a corner, but LNW got away, and Sewer Snake gave chase, getting under LNW once more, and slamming it into the arena wall.

Sewer Snake flips SJ against the wall

Sewer Snake then attempted to get under LNW, but this time LNW drove right over Sewer Snake, and got under it, and attempted a lift. This failed, and Sewer Snake got away, got under LNW, and flipped it against the wall, and LNW self-righted onto its side. Sewer Snake then drove in, and hoisted LNW out of the arena for the KO.

This put Sewer Snake in the loser's bracket final where it faced SJ. This match started with Sewer Snake attempting to get under SJ, and failing before making a run at it and flipping itself.  Sewer Snake then self-righted, and flipped SJ against the arena wall, getting flipped in the process.

Sewer Snake then slammed SJ against the same wall whilst SJ was trying to self-right,  despite this SJ righted itself, and slammed Sewer Snake against the wall as it was self-righting. Sewer Snake recovered, and slammed SJ hard against the wall, flipping it. SJ righted itself, and then proceeded to flip Sewer Snake again, this time locking weapons, and flipping itself in the process.

Sewer Snake flips Original Sin OOTA

Sewer Snake flips Original Sin out of the arena.

Both bots then self-righted, and the fight continued with Sewer Snake attempting, and failing a lift. However it recovered, and with 30 seconds left on the clock, Sewer Snake flipped SJ against the wall again, SJ then got a flip in on Sewer Snake as time ticked down. The judges ruled the match in favor of Sewer Snake putting it in the consolation final.

In the consolation final Sewer Snake faced Original Sin once more, this match started with Sewer Snake unable to get under Original Sin. Original Sin took advantage of this by slamming Sewer Snake into the walls, however Sewer Snake then flipped Original Sin, but managed to get hung up on its lifting forks. Original Sin then slammed Sewer Snake into the walls again, Sewer Snake then recovered, and got under Original Sin, and drove it to the side wall before flipping it out the arena.

Sewer Snake gets under Brutality

Sewer Snake pushes Brutality.

This put Sewer Snake in the finals where it faced Brutality, this match started with Brutality spinning up to speed, and Sewer Snake box rushing it before slamming it into the wall. Brutality got back up to speed, and tore chunks out of Sewer Snakes tires before Sewer Snake slammed it into the wall again. Once more Brutality got back up to speed, and ripped the rear-right tire off of Sewer Snake, before delivering a shot that sent Sewer Snake spinning away.

Brutality then ripped more chunks out of Sewer Snakes tires as Sewer Snake got hung up on a floor seam. However with one minute left on the clock, Brutality's bar spinner stopped working, and Sewer Snake's rear-left tire fell off as Brutality pushed it around. Brutality then attempted to slam Sewer Snake into the wall, but Sewer Snake freed itself with its weapon, flipping itself in the process.

However with the plowed fork attachment that was used for this fight Sewer Snake was unable to right itself. This allowed Brutality to slam Sewer Snake into the walls some more as the time ran out. The judges decided this match in favor of Brutality meaning that Sewer Snake was declared the ComBots Cup II Heavyweight Runner-up.

Despite this Taxes was still moving, and went up in flames even more.

Taxes then got stuck under the arena wall, and the match was paused to both free it, and put out the fire. While the smoke cleared there was a ton of confusion with the unstick not happening, and Matt turning off Sewer Snake after thinking Death & Taxes had tapped out. But Death & Taxes had not tapped out, and once the smoke cleared, and Taxes was freed the fight resumed.

However once the match resumed it became clear that the fire had finally taken its toll on Taxes, and it was not moving. Sewer Snake then manhandled Death all over the arena until time ran out. Outside of RoboGames[]

Sewer Snake first debuted at Steel Conflict 3, in 2003 where it went 0-2. However it would attend the event the following year to much better success, becoming the runner up, losing only to Evelyn a modified Dawg. It also competed at the Triangle Series Nationals, where it went 1-3, and was the champion of Battle Beach 3. Sewer Snake also competed in the untelevised 2009 BattleBots event as Stinger: The Killer Bee, where it went 2-2.

In 2006 Sewer Snake traveled overseas to Northamptonshire, England to compete in the 2006 Roaming Robots UK Championships where it was placed in Heat H, losing to Kan Opener and Beast. As well as winning a whiteboard rumble against Behemoth, CPW02, and Storm 2.

Trivia[]

  • Sewer Snake is one of only two robots to win a Silver Medal without winning a single fight in an event it placed second in, the other being Riddle Box.
  • Sewer Snakes team later competed in Battlebots with a modified Evil Plunger titled Stinger: The Killer Bee.
  • With its 70-30 record Sewer Snake is one of the most successful Robogames entries ever.
  • Sewer Snake is also the only robot to win, lose, and draw in the same event.
