Touro Maximus

Touro Maximus is a heavyweight built by Team RioBotz that competed in RoboGames 2009 to RoboGames 2016, as well as in ComBots Cup VI. It is a silver, two-wheeled invertible robot armed with a powerful single toothed drum. Touro Maximus did very well, winning one of each three RoboGames medals. Team RioBotz would later compete in the 2016 season of the BattleBots ABC reboot, with a 30 pound heavier version of Touro Maximus called Minotaur, which has reached Top 8 in every season it had competed in (Season 2 to 7 except for S5).

In its fight against Super Fluffy Pink Bunny from the land of candy and rainbows, it hit SFPB so hard that chunks of the latter robot punched through the Lexan ceiling. The fight was called for safety concerns as a result.

RoboGames 2016[]

RoboGames 2017[]

Touro Maximus's first match was against Swamp Thing. this was a relatively dull match that consisted of both robots shoving each other around until Touro Maximus high-centered itself on the arena floor.

This put it in the loser's bracket where it was supposed to face Foxic 3. However Foxic 3 did not show up to the event due to shipping issues, and was forced to forfeit. This put it through to the next round where it faced Polar Vortex.

At the start of the match, Touro Maximus was able to get to the side of Polar Vortex, who tipped over. Riobotz managed to land a few glancing blows before they tried to look for an opening. However, Polar Vortex struck their side as Touro were circling. Touro Maximus went for a second attempt and successfully overturning Polar Vortex from a head-on collision. This time, they were being aggressive with the latter trying to gain some distance. Riobotz’ heavyweight unleashed a relentless assault on Team Toad’s robot around the arena, disabling the disc. With this, Touro Maximus controlled the second half of the match, even with the drum not spinning in the later end. Touro Maximus won the match on a convincing 25-8 judges’ decision.

TM vs RS

Touro Maximus rips off a second wheel from Ragin Scotsman.

Following the decisive victory, it faced a fellow veteran, Ragin Scotsman. This was their first and currently, their only encounter so far. As the fight began, Ragin Scotsman immediately got under and rammed Touro Maximus into the corner. Once they separated, both bots drove around with Ragin Scotsman shooting an intense flame whenever they got shove. Touro Maximus countered by getting to the sides of its opponent and grazing a wheel and its underbelly. Touro Maximus was wedged again afterwards but it landed a huge shot on Ragin Scotsman, removing a wheel and warping their wedgelets. Touro Maximus started tearing up Ragin Scotsman, cleaving off all the remaining wheels. Riobotz earned the KO victory over Team Robomaster to meet yet another veteran team in the bracket, PlumbCrazy and their bot, Sewer Snake.

TM vs SS (1)

Touro Maximus corners Sewer Snake and starts removing wheels and chunks from it.

Team Riobotz had been yearning to avenge its three consecutive losses to Sewer Snake. Sewer Snake equipped the grabbing arms for this match. Touro Maximus and Sewer snake was in a stalemate, exchanging hits until they flipped the latter over with their drum. Fortunately for Riobotz, Sewer Snake’s front-hinged flipper was stuck underneath its body after self-righting. This allowed the drum spinner to start causing massive damage and tearing off wheels. Sewer Snake’s arms and flipping panel were mangled at this point and Touro Maximus kept up with its animosity until PlumbCrazy’s robot was immobilised. This meant that Touro Maximus eliminated Sewer Snake early in the competition and advanced to the Losers eighths.

They were set to fight a fellow drum spinner, Echo 2.0. Touro Maximus and Echo 2.0 approached each other with Touro outdriving them, attacking its side and rear. A side panel came off of Echo 2.0 from the assault before Touro Maximus almost perched them on their side with a good hit. It seemed like Echo 2.0 could not move soon after so Team Echo handed the win to Team Riobotz by tapping out. Touro Maximus advanced to Losers Quarterfinals to face Whoops!.

TM vs Whoops!

Touro Maximus sends Whoops crashing into an upper Lexan panel.

Whoops! decided to go with their flat plow configuration for this match. Touro Maximus started grinding on the plow and shoving Whoops! around. Whoops! was popped up and over twice by the drum. Touro Maximus kept pursuing the fleeing ram bot and overturned them before their drum spun down. Both robots began circling each other until Touro Maximus got their drum up to speed and sent Whoops! flying into a Lexan panel. Touro Maximus managed to have sheared off most of the plow hinges. It repeatedly ram Whoops! against the railing before high-centering it. The match was halted to unstick Riobotz’s opponent and once it resumed, the plow completely detached from Whoops after some movement. Touro Maximus simply shoved its opponent and rested them upright against the railing, knocking them out as they could not self-right. That dominant win sent them into Losers Semi-Finals to battle the rising sophomore, Whiplash.

TM vs Whiplash (1)

Touro Maximus almost flips Whiplash over with a great hit.

TM vs Whiplash (2)

Touro Maximus gets high-centered on the railing by Whiplash.

Touro Maximus and Whiplash, with its disk not spinning, met in the centre of the arena. The Robogames veteran was able to turn the latter around with a small hit before knocking them up. The middle part of the wedge was ripped off and struck a flood light. However, Touro Maximus was flipped over by Whiplash and it tried to escape by driving on one wheel before self-righting. Touro Maximus connected a few more hits before it lifted up. Touro Maximus kept retaliating but found itself lifted up against the railings repeatedly. The drum could not spin up for long and this allowed Whiplash to get in numerous lifts. Eventually, Touro Maximus’ front was affixed to the bottom half of the railing by Whiplash and was high-centered. Touro Maximus was eliminated and took 4th in Robogames 2017.
